About the Gridiron Gala
Currently in New York City, approximately 40% of students who enter ninth grade each fall fail to graduate with their peers four years later. At the same time, many children from underserved neighborhoods cannot read proficiently by third grade. These children and youth need help in order to stay on track, maintain academic gains from grade to grade, and eventually graduate and go to college.
Thanks to generous support from the New York Giants, the New York Jets, and community leaders like YOU, United Way of New York City’s Gridiron Gala has raised more than $20 million to support initiatives that benefit our city’s most vulnerable children and youth. We’re working to increase access to early childhood education programs, provide academic support and youth development activities, and ensure that New York City youth get the help they need to stay in school and graduate.
Since 1974, United Way and the National Football League have worked together to strengthen America’s communities. United Way of New York City created the Gridiron Gala in 1993 to celebrate this unique partnership.
