The NFL and United Way Partnership is the most visible and longest running charitable collaboration in history. For more than 36 years, the partnership has been a shining example of the tangible good that can come when America’s favorite sports league joins forces with the largest nonprofit to create real change in communities.

In New York City, we are fortunate to have two NFL clubs that are committed to the longstanding partnership. We recognize the NFL, the New York Jets and New York Giants and salute them as vital community partners who have contributed to our work so substantially over the years.

Hometown Huddle

The NFL, United Way of New York City and Community League of The Heights (CLOTH) teamed up for the 12th Annual NFL/United Way Hometown Huddle on October 19, 2010. Held this year at PS 4 - The Duke Ellington School in Washington Heights, Hometown Huddle brought together nearly 100 employees from NFL corporate headquarters for an afternoon of volunteering. As part of NFL Play 60, the league’s youth health and fitness campaign designed to reduce childhood obesity, the volunteers installed fitness equipment in PS 4’s school yard and led an NFL Play 60 clinic for more than 100 students in the school's gym. They further brightened the school yard by painting a two murals, art-directed by the NFL design staff. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was there to cheer everyone one.

NFL Play 60 and United Way are encouraging kids to play at least 60 minutes every day. It’s part of United Way’s 10-year goal to increase by one-third the number of youth who are healthy and avoiding risky behaviors. The NFL and United Way are working together to provide new, fun opportunities for young people to lead healthier lifestyles.
